STEP 01
Watch where things naturally land
Notice the spots where keys, mail, toys, and remote controls gather. These are clues, not failures. Put a tray, basket, or hook at the point of use rather than expecting everything to travel across the house.
STEP 02
Choose a home for each activity
Create a reading zone, a place for games, and a small home for devices. Group shared items in accessible storage. Keep heavy objects low and avoid overloading shelving.
STEP 03
Edit surfaces without emptying the room
Keep objects you enjoy and use, then remove items that block the function of a table or shelf. A coffee table should still have room for a cup. An empty section of shelf makes other objects easier to see.
STEP 04
Make shared storage easy to understand
Use broad categories and plain labels where helpful. Invite the household to choose locations together. Store children’s daily items at an appropriate height, while keeping batteries and small hazardous items safely out of reach.
STEP 05
Reset together, not perfectly
Take five minutes to return items at the end of the day. If a basket is always overflowing, review the category or reduce what belongs there. Add storage only after you understand the problem.
